Nannies
Can I register with National Nannies™?
If you have a minimum of 1 year solid childcare experience or a minimum of a Level 2 or equivalent childcare qualification then please go to our nanny registration form to register with us.
However National Nannies™ does not discriminate against nannies starting out in their career. In this case we will ask you to complete our short training course before being able to register.
It is also at our consultants discretion to ask you to complete the course if they feel you have a limited understanding of nannying and it's requirements. This will often be requested if English is not your first language.
What happens next?
Once we have received your registration form your local consultant will be in contact with you to arrange an interview. At this interview they will get to know you and your requirements. You will be asked to bring along 2 forms of ID, one of which must include a photo. Also bring along any relevant certificates and qualifications. In the meantime the consultant will be checking your references.
No child carer will be put forward for a position until they have been met by the consultant and all checks completed.
Your Local Consultant
I have an interview, now what?
It is important to make a good impression when you first meet a family. You may not get a second chance to impress them!
First impressions count so be presentable but not too smart! They want to know that you are not afraid of getting messy!
Know what job you are going for.
Give yourself plenty of time to get there.
Take notes of the things you want to ask.
It looks professional to have a portfolio.
Spend time talking and playing with the children if they are there, get down on the floor and interact with the children its so important that the parents see you bonding with their children.
Make sure you come away knowing everything you wanted to know about the position.
Stay Calm. They want to know you are calm under pressure.
Be yourself only accept the position if you really want it!
I cant make my interview
If you fail to attend your arranged interview with our consultants without giving them 24 hours notice this may result in you being removed from our books. This also applies to interviews with prospective families. Failure to contact your consultant in this instance prior to the interview will result in you being removed from our books and not being put forward for any future positions.
How much can I expect to earn as a nanny?
The current economic climate has meant there are many child carers seeking employment. The current hourly rate is between £6.50 and £12.50 per hour depending on location, experience and qualifications.
Au pairs however can expect to earn "pocket money" along with their accommodation whilst studying here in the U.K.
How do I become more employable?
With many people being currently out of work it is important that you stand out on paper initially to a family.
A current up to date CRB is essential ( these can only be applied for through an agency or organisation)
A valid certificate in Early Years First Aid
Ofsted is becoming requested more and more ( please see below)
* We can help you obtain all of the above *
Becoming Ofsted Registered
Some parents can claim up to 80% of their childcare costs back and with the current economic climate it is becoming more and more requested.
Parents can only claim this if they employ an Ofsted Registered nanny.
There is a national shortage of registered nannies so becoming registered can be very worth while, and make you stand out from the rest!
To become registered you will need the following:
A relevant recognised child care qualification
A valid Early Years first aid certificate
Nanny insurance
A CRB check ( new one completed as part of the process)
Ofsted registration currently costs just over £114 renewed annually.
If you do not have the above criteria you can still become registered. Contact us for help & information.
